Registered Dexter Catle

​Dexter cattle are native to Ireland where they were bred by small land holders. They thrive in both hot and cold climates. Fertility is high and calves are dropped without difficulty. Dexters are dual purpose--both milk and beef. They are the perfect old fashioned famiy cow. Dexters come in black, red, and dun. Some are horned and some are polled.

The ideal Dexter bull measures 38 to 44 inches at the shoulder and weighs less than 1000 pounds. The ideal Dexter cow measures 36 to 42 inches an weighs less than 750 pounds.

There are 2 types of Dexters. This is a short legged(Chondro carrier). Milk and beef poduction and other characteristics are generally the same for both types.

Doll is a long legged(Negative for Chondro). A milking Dexter cow can produce more milk for its weight than any other breed. The daily yield averges 1 to 3 gallons per day with a butterfat contend of 4 to 5 percnt. Yields of cream up to one quart per gallon are possible.
